The Mayor is making changes to his blueprint for London, the “London Plan”, to reflect government guidelines.
The changes would alter the rules regarding the size of new homes – allowing developers to build smaller homes with lower ceilings. There would also be changes to requirements for accessibility, with developers no longer having to make private developments accessible for wheelchair users.
There are also changes proposed to residential car parking standards, with a new policy encouraging boroughs to promote more parking at developments with low transport accessibility in outer London. How much car parking space should be available in the new developments of Outer London? Will more parking affect the demand for public transport – and so undermine the case for public transport investment and improvements in Outer London?
The London Assembly Planning Committee will tomorrow explore these issues.
