My morning with Ken

I joined Ken Livingstone, his running mate for deputy Mayor Val Shawcross, and Labour leader Ed Miliband to campaign in Lambeth yesterday morning. We started off with a meeting at Kennington Business Park, where we heard from local businesses and residents about the issues facing this vibrant and diverse corner of south London.

Labour leaders - including Onkar Sahota, Val Shawcross, Ken Livingstone, activist and rabbi Joseph Stauber, and myself - listen to local businesses and residents at Kennington Business Park in Oval, Lambeth

Our next stop was the launch of Ken’s new poster: ‘The Tories are on a different planet.’ The country’s three top Conservatives – David Cameron, George Osborne, and their man-in-London Boris Johnson – are fitted up with Avatar-style blue faces complete with antennae, and a reminder that these are the men response for continued recession, fare rises, and police cuts. And for them to think their policies are helping Londoners?… they really must be on a different planet.

Three Posh Boys!

The highlight of the day was Ken’s First Day Letter to Londoners. These plans for his first day in office make clear the choice between the Tory policies of Boris Johnson, and Ken’s commitment to giving Londoners safety on the streets and in their homes, more money in their pockets, better and more affordable housing, and improved opportunities for their children. I would encourage everyone, before going to the polls on Thursday 3 May, to read this letter: http://www.kenlivingstone.com/uploads/5375c0fb-68e0-8954-b9b1-6aea37729477.pdf .
