I’m very pleased to have been selected by my assembly colleagues as the London Assembly representative on the London Sustainable Development Commission. I will be joining experts from different sectors who drive the commission’s goals of promoting sustainable development, embedding sustainability into London-wide strategies, and helping make sustainability a meaningful and understandable concept for all Londoners.
I have spent much of my public life promoting policies for sustainable development and previously sat on the national Sustainable Development Commission. I will continue these efforts on the London commission. In particular, I see this as an opportunity to make certain the London Plan is meeting its sustainability and climate change goals, especially the very challenging 60% Co2 reduction target by 2025.
The commission has done some fantastic work, particularly on sustainable production and consumption, but there remains much to be done. I look forward to carrying forward these efforts to transform London into a truly sustainable world city.
